Fly Fish Tasmania's Lowland Rivers
It is perhaps a contradiction that our small island state has some of Australia’s best trout fishing. Be it stalking Rainbows and perhaps Browns in the thousands of lakes in the high country or chasing Browns and perhaps Rainbows in the well known and productive rivers on the lowlands in the state’s north. Tassie has it all!
This adventure concentrates on the lowland rivers. Although Nymph fishing in Tasmania can be very productive it is Dry fly fishing that is the specialty of Tassie’s northern rivers. Matching the hatch is what it is all about.
From September till March successfully imitating the behavior of Caddis, Mayfly, Stonefly, Cicada and others will land you some very respectable trout up to 5 lb.
Wading, Rafting and Stalking are are the main techniques we employ to catch trout in this area.
You could be wading in the shallows of slow flowing rivers and streams looking for trout feeding below the riffles and in the pools. You could raft down the larger slow flowing rivers giving you the chance to cover a lot of water in a day and increase your chances. This is a leisurely but productive way of fly fishing.
Or you could be stalking the banks of smaller streams looking for tailing fish to catch on Nymph or dry fly.
Accommodation
The lodge is a small, private dedicated fishing lodge situated on the banks of the North Esk River below the towering peaks of Ben Lomond and Ben Nevis. It has over 2klm of river frontage and two small lakes on the property.
The building has been built using plenty of the local timber and stone and with a large open log fire and wide expansive views it has the ambience of fishing lodges of days gone by. The in-house chef will arrange breakfast and dinner of very high standard and the guide will provide morning and afternoon tea and lunch in the field during the day.

The days will be spent stalking the countryside for wily trout and the evenings in the company of like minded people reliving the adventures of the day.
The fish get bigger as the fireside drinks go down!
